Green Building Goes Big
Developers are starting to incorporate environmentally sound building techniques in their multi-home projects.
... Big green development projects have already arrived in some places. Atlantic Station is a LEED-qualified project on a brownfields in Atlanta, with commercial and residential buildings. It is, at more than 130 acres, so big it has its own zip code. Eventually 10,000 people will live there.

Old mill called 'model' for the rest of the nation
The nation's top environmental regulator attended Atlantic Station's steel-cutting ceremony Tuesday night, calling the city within a city a prime example of turning an environmental hazard into an economic engine. "Atlantic Station is a model to the rest of the nation," U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Stephen Johnson said. It "is helping us hand down both health and a brighter future."
