Pedal Power with Pattie: Basic Bike Skills Class for Women

04/21/2018, 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM

Remember how much fun it used to be to ride your bike? Wanna get back out there and feel that freedom again, or thinking about biking to school with your kids, bike-commuting to work (even if it's just for the final mile or so), running errands, using bikeshare when you travel or around the City of Atlanta, or just getting some more regular exercise? If you know how to pedal a bike and have access to a bike in good working condition with at least three gears, this free class as part of Atlantic Station's Earth Day Celebration may be just what you need to get back in the saddle. (Note: Relay Bikeshare would be a GREAT choice for this class, if you don't have or want to bring your own bike. It is located on the corner of 17th Street and District Avenue.)

This women-only class provides a supportive environment where you can brush up on bike handling skills, learn a few hazard avoidance tricks, practice switching gears, learn trail etiquette, get an intro to road rules and tips, and find out how to choose a route where you feel comfortable so you can fit bike riding back into your life.

Pattie is certified to teach the League of American Bicyclists' Smart Cycling curriculum, from which she created this free class for you. Go at a pace that meets your comfort level -- and since there is a maximum of three students in this class, your personal attention is assured.

Bring your own bike in good working condition (with at least 3 gears) or Relay Bikeshare, a helmet (required), and a bottle of water. Closed toe shoes are better (no flip flops). There is access to a restroom and water fountain. Note: You will need to sign the League of American Bicyclists standard release form right before we start the class.
